The Ganjam District Orthopaedically Handicapped Welfare Association is such an organisation which is working for the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), of the PWDs and by the PWDs. Presently more than 15,000 Beneficiary Members, 100 General Body Members, 20 Honourary Members are directly involved with the association and about to 25,000 PWDs of the district are indirectly involved with the association. The Governing Body of the association is entrusted in the hands of the 7 highly educated and experienced PWDs of the district. Within the span of last 28 years we have taken several steps for the education, vocational training, employment, self-employment, health and rehabilitation of the PWDs of the district. Apart from this we have tried our level best to arrange loans, stipends, scholarships and aids and appliances to the PWDs for their habitation and rehabilitation.
As part of our educational programme we are encouraging the children with special needs to go to the normal schools by providing financial assistance in the form of scholarship, travel allowance, escort allowance, books, study materials and school bags including aids and appliances as per their need. The children who are unable to go to the normal schools for them we are running two special residential schools named and styled as SAMARTH, one is for MRCP children and the other is for LICP children.
